This may be a circuit breaker or a button that controls the power to the heating unit. Some heaters have a power button on the side or inside the panel. So, check the user manual for the power button location if you can’t find it directly.

Step 2: Turn off the power once you have located the power source, turn off the power to the water heater by either flipping the circuit breaker to the “off” position or removing the fuse. This will disconnect the power supply to the unit, effectively turning it off.

Some new model heaters has different type of reset buttons.  for example in Rheem tankless water heaters we have to press multiple buttons in order to reset the heater. It has 2 sets of DIP switches and 3 push buttons. To reset, first turn up the 2nd switch in the top DIP and turn the switch to down then with in 5 seconds press and hold min and max push buttons same time till you see the UL on the display. Wait for few seconds and turn on the power. That’s it the reset is done.

Once the water heater has restarted, it is important to check for any error codes that may have been displayed. These codes can indicate a problem with the unit, and should be addressed before using the water heater again.
